Building Adaptive and Resilient Communities Tool
Today, the effects of climate change are being felt in communities across the country. These effects are set to become so pervasive that all levels of government and all sections of society will have a responsibility to become informed and to take appropriate action within their mandates to prepare for and adapt to them.
The Building Adaptive & Resilient Communities Tool has been designed to assist local governments with climate change adaptation planning. This interactive web-based tool takes users through the Five Milestone process outlined in the ICLEI Canada's Adaptation Methodology. The tool is made up of a series of exercises designed to assist communities in adapting to the impacts of climate change through the development of a municipal climate change adaptation plan and helps set up the fundamental building blocks of a significant municipal adaptation effort.
The full BARC Tool is exclusively available to BARC Members, however non-BARC Members are able to access Milestone One of the Tool. Milestone One includes guidance on establishing the context for your adaptation plan, identifying key stakeholders, building and tasking your adaptation team, identifying an adaptation champion, taking a first look at your municipality’s existing broader climate change context, accessing local climate data, solidifying the adaptation planning process through a political commitment, and planning how to move further forward on adaptation.
